Name of the Contest
Water, Our Most Valuable Asset: Sustainability
Purpose of the Contest
The aim of this photography contest is to draw attention to issues such as access to clean water, drought, ecological balance and global warming. These are among the biggest problems facing the modern world and we aim to encourage the production of visual content that raises awareness about sustainability.
Conditions of Participation
- The contest is open to all Cyprus International University students except first degree relatives of members of the Selection and Organizing Committee.
- Each entrant can submit a maximum of 3 works to the contest.
- Only original photographs will be accepted for the contest.
- The photos submitted to the contest can be in color or black and white.
- Entrants should write the place, date and time the photo was taken in a Word document and send it together with the photos.
- Photos must not have received an award in any contest before. Entrants will be automatically disqualified if they have previously won awards.
- The entrant accepts, declares and undertakes that the photo he/she sends to the contest is entirely his/her own and that all permissions have been obtained. If it is understood that the winners acted outside of the contest terms and conditions, their prizes will be taken back.
Submission of Works
- Participation in the contest will be via e-mail. Only photos sent to this email (fotofestcomm2023@ciu.edu.tr) via WeTransfer will able be accepted. E-mail will be managed by Engin Aluç from the organizing board.
- Photographs and documents submitted to the contest will only be accepted via e-mail. Other alternative shipments (such as post, cargo, courier, hand delivery, etc.) will not be accepted.
- Entrants will apply to the contest by e-mail between February 1 and April 7, 2023.
- The contest terms and conditions and the contest application form can be downloaded from the SIS system. The application form must be duly filled in completely and sent together with the photographs submitted for the contest via e-mail.

Evaluation of the Works
All submitted photographs will be pre-selected by the pre-selection committee on Monday, April 10, 2023.
On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, the selection committee (main jury) will determine the winners and exhibitors among the works that have passed the pre-selection and submit them to the organizing committee with a report.
Other Considerations
- No photographs will be returned, including the submitted photographs, those that are awarded and are worthy of exhibition.
- Participation in the contest is free of charge.
- All photographs participating in the contest will remain in the archive of the Cyprus International University Faculty of Communication.
- A photography exhibition consisting of the awarded photographs and the photographs deemed appropriate to be exhibited will be opened.
- After the certificate ceremony, a printed photograph will be requested from the owner of the 20 photographs that were awarded the right to exhibit.
- Cyprus International University Faculty of Communication has the right to publish the photograph by clearly stating the name of the owner of the photograph, in all kinds of printed publications and internet media.
- The award winning and worthy exhibition photographs will be published on the CIU website and CIU Social Media channels.
- All Entrants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions by completing the contest form and sending it together with the works via e-mail.
- All entrants participating in the contest will be given a certificate of participation. The award winners will be given a plaque and an exhibition certificate, and an exhibition certificate will be given to those who have been selected for the exhibition.
Technical Requirements
- Entered photos will be uploaded to the system in 300 DPI JPEG, JPG or PNG format with a short side of at least 2048 pixels. Application photos should be at least 3 MB and a maximum of 5 MB in size.
- Entered photos should contain borders or space around the image.
- Signature, name, nickname, seal, introductory symbol, etc. should not be included on the images.
- Entrants will fill in the required information in the application form completely and completely and send them via e-mail together with the application photos.
Copyright
The entrant accepts in advance that he/she has an exclusive right to use his/her photograph(s) (provided that his/her name is used) which have been awarded the prize; accordingly, he/she accepts that he/she gives permission to Cyprus International University indefinitely for the use of reproduction, processing, representation, public transmission rights and publication rights of his photograph(s) that are ranked in accordance with the relevant legislation.
